Great issue from start to finish!

sacred creatures 1

WOW!

What a fantastic first issue!

A man, who is jobless and with a pregnant girlfriend, is looking to make things better and runs into ALL sorts of bad "people" who use and abuse him and things only get worse from there.

Throw in a little of the supernatural and metaphysical and you have the makings of one terrific read.

Surprising ending!

This is a long read as it is an oversized first issue, but the story is amazing and the Klaus Janson art is perfect for the mood it sets.

Excellent story and fabulous art make Sacred Creatures #1

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week!!!

AJ's PICKS OF THE WEEK

Now, something is hunting them down and exterminating them.

Excellent and engaging read.

NUMBER ONE

batman elmer

All of these DC/Looney Tunes crossovers have been very well done, but this one is just downright fantastic!

Telling the story in noir style really puts you in the mood and Tom King delivers 110% and Lee Weeks is perfect here. His art captures the very essence of the story.

It is perfect in every way, even the Looney Tunes style back-up story was very well done.

From the moment I started reading this, I knew that Batman/Elmer Fudd would be

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week!!!

AJ's PICKS OF THE WEEK

NUMBER THREE

gls 25

Baz pens a letter to his friend and brother-in-law, Naz, before going off with Jessica and Rami who is secretly under control by Volthoom, to the Vault of Shadows.

He finally reveals himself to them and the fight is on.

The issue is intermixed with how some of the first seven Green Lanterns were chosen and Volthoom trying to take Jessica's Ring back, since it apparently was his..

Excellent issue.

NUMBER TWO

aquaman 25

Arthur is believed dead, but in reality is striking from the shadows and biding his time.

Vulko gets word to Mera.

The battle is on. Continuing the story in Justice League before coming back for Aquaman #26.

Beautiful painted art throughout by Stephan Sejic. Really brings out the feel of being underwater.

NUMBER ONE

black hammer 10

What would AJ's Picks of the Week be without a book by Jeff LeMire?

It seems that way more often then not he is being showcased in the top 3 slots and mainly at number 1!

What can I say? He's THAT good, and Black hemmer has been a consistently great book since the beginning.

It's nice to see Dean Ormston back on art as he has truly brought this book to like along with LeMire.

Lucy questions Slam about being a prisoner in their town, but he doesn't see it that way and lets her know it in no uncertain terms.

Mark gives off the wrong message to the priest, and Tammy is confronted by her soon to be ex-husband, the Sheriff, regarding her dealings with Slam.

Another all around excellent issue and definitely

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

AJ's PICKS OF THE WEEK

week of June 14th, 2017

NUMBER THREE

flash 24

Flash and GL fight Multiplex who attacked in the last issue while Kid Flash tries to protect his Aunt Iris from the Reverse-Flash.

Shocking ending with some very intriguing possibilities.Excellent book.

These past two issues have been the most enjoyable Flash books in quite some time.

NUMBER TWO

titans 12

Great book from Dan Abnett and Kenneth Rocafort.

Great art throughout.

Lilith interrogates Psimon at Ryker's prison, and the villain sees it as a challenge that he is more than ready for, but Lilith has a few surprises for him.

Excellent read and another book with very intriguing possibilities being thrown our way.

Is it purely coincidence that these 2 books were the ones most closely tied to the DC Universe Rebirth last year?

NUMBER ONE

green valley 9

This wasn't going to be in the top 3 even, until the very ending, even though this has been a GREAT mini-series since it started last year.

Perfect ending to the series and a PERFECT ending to this issue makes Green Valley #9

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

AJ's PICKS OF THE WEEK

week of June 7th, 2017

NUMBER THREE

babyteeth 1

Another great new series from Donny Coates!

As Sadie records a videolog telling Clark of his birth we learn a little bit of why.

The fact that some are calling her child the Antichrist puts a nice twist to it.

NUMBER TWO

aquaman 24

Arthur is usurped as King of Atlantis!

As he attempts to flee to return to Mera and their life at Amnesty Bay, Arthur is betrayed by one believed close to him.

Great read throughout and the best DC Rebirth title week in, week out.

NUMBER ONE

reborn 6

This book has either been fantastic or just ho hum.

Thankfully, they ended this series on a high note as this issue was the best of the week ans the best Reborn issue since #1.

I can't remember the last time I felt satisfied after reading an entire Mark Millar story, but this one certainly foot the bill.

Not enough can be said about how great Greg Capullo's art has been throughout this book. It is breathtaking!

The art is a definite chart topper but with the added excellent story and beautiful ending to this series, Reborn #6 IS

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

AJ's PICKS OF THE WEEK

week of May 24th, 2017

NUMBER THREE

flash 23

Best single issue of Flash since Rebirth started.

Excellent ending and some nice art throughout.

NUMBER TWO

spencer and locke 2

This book has been a great find through 2 wonderful issues. This issue was full of action but also showcases Locke's early days and how he apparently becomes as messed up as he now is.

But, at the end of the day, he is still a good guy trying to do good in the world as a detective with an imaginary purple tiger to help.

How could that not be great?

Great read throughout.

NUMBER ONE

old mn logan 24

I'll take two lackluster Jeff LeMire books this week in order to get a Number One Pick from him as well any time.

This one brought literal tears to the eyes as LeMire manages to make you really care about Logan like you never have before.

He certainly knows how to pull on the heart strings.

Old Man Logan looks to be Jeff LeMire's swan song at Marvel, but he went out with a BANG as Old Man Logan 24 IS

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

AJ's PICKS OF THE WEEK

week of May 17th, 2017

NUMBER THREE

kim reaper 2

Great read so far through 2 issues!

NUMBER TWO

green lanterns 23

Guy trains Jessica and Kyle trains Simon.

Meanwhile, Volthoom is trying to unearth secrets using Rami's body.

Could possible be the best Rebirth book going through 23 issues.

Definitely one of the best with consistent beautiful art from the rotating team of artists!

NUMBER ONE

royal city 3

Was there any doubt?

Sure wasn't in my mind.

Pat picks up his brother Ritchie and they have a heart to heart.

Tara learns her husband is trying to block her development deal and they have it out.

Great real life issues told in a direct, dramatic, and engaging manner that has become a Jeff LeMire trademark.

Great action issue setting up the Finale next issue. Fast read!

NUMBER ONE

action 979

The Kents move back to Metropolis.

The group that did it had ominous reasons.

Great group of villains and the threat that they pose to Superman makes Action #979

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

NUMBER THREE

old man logan 22

Wolverine travels through time and revisits his worst moments courtesy of Asmodeus!

Great emotional issue courtesy of the master, Jeff Lemire.

NUMBER TWO

old guard 3

Booker returns from what would have been a normally fatal wound, but not for the Old Guard.

Andy goes to find the other team members that were taken.

Excellent issue!

NUMBER ONE

namwolf 1

Well this one sure shocked me.

I didn't expect anything when I opened this book up.

Glad I was wrong.

Excellent start to this quirky, gritty and at times gruesome comic.

Spencer gets drafted into the Vietnam War and then comes under attack and turns into a werewolf.

Then things go crazy!!!

What's not to love!!!

Namwolf #1 is

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

NUMBER THREE

superman 21

Superboy handles the giant squid that is disrupting their town, even though it was against his Dad's orders, and after Robin lets Superman know about his son's visit to Dead Man's Swamp, he leaves disappointed.

This is a great book all around and Super Sons is the perfect companion to it, both written by Peter Tomasi.

His interplay with Damian and Jon feels so authentic. It's great to read characters that you can easily view as "real."

The mystery in here as part of the main story is pretty damn good as well.

NUMBER TWO

bnatman 121

Perfect start to the 4 part crossover with Flash.

Perfect art! Absolutely perfect!

The overall mystery with the Watchmen deepen and this book was a fantastic start to it!

NUMBER ONE

royal city 2

Jeff Lemire does it again and 2 weeks in a row no less!

Another Top Pick of the Week!

There could have easily been 3 Top 3 Picks for Jeff Lemire what with Black Hammer and Descender as well, but his stuff can't be THAT fantastic, can it?

Actually it can AND is, but it ran into the buzzsaw that is Batman #21, and I really, really like Peter Tomasi's Superman, so I gave them the bump, but if you replaced those with the previously mentioned Lemire books I wouldn't disagree.

Here we learn that Richie is in deep with the wrong people and what is really going on with Pat's life at the moment and can extrapolate why it might be so hard for him to write anything.Jeff Lemire continues to tell us this story of a "normal" family living in Royal City and the problems that they experience.

Jeff LeMire just gets to the core of a character and knows how to relate it to the reader like no one else I can think of. Certainly not in the comics medium.

Royal City #2 is absolutely

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

NUMBER THREE

asm ryv 6

The best Spider-Man has been IN YEARS!!!!

Gerry Conway KNOWS how to tell great Spider-Man stories. He's done it for over 40 years!

Professor Xavier wants Anna to join his school, but MJ is dead set against it while Peter sees both sides of the argument. Meanwhile, Magneto and his Brotherhood come calling.

Excellent all around issue.

THIS should be the regular Spider-Man book!

It is as far as I'm concerned.

NUMBER TWO

green valley 7

This book has been a smash success from the very start for me.

Here the Knights of Kelodia discuss how to handle the "evil wizard" who can destroy the world by messing with time with all of his movements through it.

Bertwald makes a fateful choice and the final chapter is set in motion.

Fantastic read!

NUMBER ONE

old man logan 21

Jeff Lemire does it again!

This issue is incredible!

Logan is sent back to the War of 1812 in a vain attempt to return to the Badlands and try to rescue the Hulk's son.

Problem is Asmodeus has sent him on a fool's journey through his own past.

You WILL NOT believe where the end of this issue takes us.

Jeff Lemire can weave a story like only a few comic book writers can and has me utterly enthralled with this, his last arc on the series.

Old Man Logan #21 is unquestionably

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

NUMBER THREE

eleanor 1

Fantastic read!

Gorgeous Sam Keith art!

An art piece is stolen from a gallery and the only clue is a feather.

The inspector on the case is led to a pet store for inquiry when he runs across Eleanor.

Great book!

NUMBER TWO

batman 20

Some absolutely beautiful splash pages!

Beautiful David Finch Batman art throughout.

He is at the apex of his art form when drawing Batman.

Excellent issue from start to finish as Batman and Bane battle throughout and we hear Batman relate to us why he did what he did since the beginning of the series to lead to this point.

NUMBER ONE

ca 15

What a stunning cover!

And that's just the beginning.

Fantastic series since issue one!

We learn here why Captain America is/has been the way he is and what his true motivations are.

As obvious a lead-in to what is usually a lackluster summer event, but Secret Empire is shaping up to be a rare fantastic one.

The best Cap since Brubaker's run that brought back Bucky Barnes!

Captain America #15 is definitely

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

AJ's PICKS OF THE WEEK

week of March 29, 2017

NUMBER THREE

thunderbolts 11

Thunderbolts has been a very enjoyable read since the first issue launched after the end of the Pleasant Hill Avengers story line.

This issue is one of the best to date as Kobik reveals to Bucky what she has done to Steve Rogers and at who's behest she did it and why.

This is definitely leading into the big Marvel summer event, Secret Empire, and no doubt this series will have a pivotal role to play in it.

NUMBER TWO

titans annual

The Key is the main villain here, but he is also working with a hidden someone!

Members of the Justice League and Titans (mentors and proteges) are absconded and placed in some trapped room and need to come up with some way to get out

Wonder Woman reveals a hidden truth about Donna to her and the teams.

Excellent issue from start to finish and keeps the mystery villain hidden for future installments of Titans.

NUMBER ONE

white 4

Why not?

This book has been a number one book here the entire time!

Fantastic book throughout.

Fantastic series throughout!

You can feel the tension as you turn each page. It is actually tangible.

I haven't felt this engrossed in a series in a LONG time.

Willa is up sh&*'s creek here, and NO ONE has her back...almost no one.

An exciting, riveting, edge of your seat adventure.

Once again, and for the last time White #4 is undoubtedly

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

AJ's PICKS OF THE WEEK

week of March 22, 2017

NUMBER THREE

descender 20

Effie reads Andy the riot act after "killing" Driller.

Telsa locks up Dr. Quon as her father brings the UGC to war against the robots.

Absolutely excellent issue. One of the best of this series to date and that's saying something.

NUMBER TWO

black hammer 7

A double dose of Jeff LeMire this week!

This issue is a send up to the New Gods as Jeff's homage to the classic Golden Age/Silver Age books continues here and it's fantastic!

He even has a Lockjaw "knockoff" and we learn the back story of Black Hammer himself.

Awesome issue from start to finish.

NUMBER ONE

white 3

It's an all indie week in the Top 3 this week!

Fantastic book throughout.

Gorgeous art throughout. Looking at the pages made me feel like I was right there out in the middle of the Ocean watching Willa as she struggles to survive.

This issue was an exploratory issue as we learn a lot more about Willa and her life. Less on the action, but ALL story here.

For a book that I expected absolutely nothing from when it was first announced, I have been utterly blown with it each time it comes out.

Sad to see there's only one more issue left, but I have HIGH expectations for that now.

White #3 is definitely

AJ's #1 Pick of the Week

AJ's PICKS OF THE WEEK

NUMBER THREE

jeff steinberg 6

Very well done and very funny issue in its places.

Jeff is such a lovable loser and this book is magnificent every time it comes out.

NUMBER TWO

dd 18

DD relates his recent history to a priest, and we learn more about how people forgot that he was Matt Murdock.

The fact that it looks like it has something to do with the Purple Man makes it all the better.

Charles Soule has been writing a terrific series here and this issue definitely continues in that trend, and Ron Garney has been drawing some of his best art in years here. Very moody which completely fits the story.

NUMBER ONE

gls 19

Fantastic in every way you can imagine.

Beautiful art? Got that.

Fantastic story? Check.

Cool take on a classic villain? Definitely.

This book has been one of the MAJOR hits of the DC Rebirth line, at least in this store.

Green Lanterns has been a phenomenal book since it started almost a year ago, and Sam Humphries has without a doubt become a top-tier writer in my mind.

In this issue Doctor Polaris is back and nothing will stop him from getting what he wants; not even Simon and Jessica.

The art has been amazing throughout this book each and every 2 weeks it comes out and Cliquet here delivers no less than stunning visuals.

Nothing else need be said. Green Lanterns #19 is
